Milly Spring 2017 collection brings SoCal vibes

For someone born and raised on the East Coast, Michelle Smith’s Spring 2017 Milly collection is very SoCal. Maybe it was influenced by the fact that her father once was stationed in Oceanside mixed with her dreams of driving along the Pacific Ocean in a top-down convertible (which she did this past week between Los Angeles and San Diego). Whatever the driving force, when Smith sent her collection down the runway during a show held on March 16 at Neiman Marcus at Fashion Valley Mall, it was a perfect fit for the SoCal audience.

Smith calls the Milly spring collection “Love Knot” because of the many ties and knots incorporated into the clothing. Vibrant colors, flowy skirts, dresses and wide-leg pants, plus whimsical prints (including surfer stripes and palm trees) define the daytime looks that could easily transition into warm SoCal nights. The evening looks combine more traditional, polished pieces with well thought out notes of sex appeal that reflect Smith’s Parisian couture training and the energy of her New York lifestyle. Eveningwear sent down the runway had plunging necklines (which Smith said were perfect for date nights because of the “above the table” image they brought to the dining room) and open, low backs that make a woman look “just as beautiful going as she is coming.”

The popup Milly Spring 2017 collection is available on the second floor of Neiman Marcus, along with exclusive pieces for the store, at Fashion Valley Mall. Prices for the collection range from about $150-$1,395.
