Outdoor art events and SoCal summers go together like Claude Monet and water lilies. A perfect marriage of beautiful ambience and coastal weather, the Village of La Jolla provides a picturesque backdrop to a new series of free art events this summer.

Kicking off on Friday, Aug. 18 at ADGY ART gallery, Arts Around La Plaza is a 3-part series of two-week art events including music, dance and lecture events. The series is a collaboration between local Monarch | Arredon Contemporary gallery and  La Plaza La Jolla the luxury open-air shopping center on the corner of Girard and Wall streets in downtown La Jolla.

Elsie Arredondo, owner and director of Monarch | Arredon Contemporary said unification through the arts is vital to La Jolla: “A community thrives through collaborations. It is through these efforts that we discover new creative ways to benefit not just our locals and visitors but our overall business community. The arts are particularly sensitive to this ecosystem and I believe that making them accessible, in a variety of ways, is crucial to ensuring that art continues to be part of the La Jolla community.”

On Friday, guests can enjoy an artist reception with international artist Thomas Lamprecht, and the opening of his solo exhibition, Landscapes. The artist transforms classical works into linear interpretations, placing them in color fields reminiscent of Rothko to create superimposed narratives. The sense of isolation of the images amongst these washes of color speaks to the viewer of self and cultural reflection. Known around the world for his paintings, Lamprecht’s work has been exhibited in renowned venues, including Kunsthalle, Basel, Switzerland and New York’s Carnegie Hall. Landscapes will be held in ADGY Art, Suite 102 through Sept. 3. For more information, visit adgyart.com.
